Boulder vacantion

Messaggioda paul_mink » mar set 19, 2006 16:39 pm

Hello everyone,

A friend of mine and I are thinking about going on vacation to "Lago di Garda". We both like bouldering and we where wandering whether there are specific boulder locations near "Lago di Garda". Since we both don't speak Itallian, looking on the internet is difficult. We where wandering if you could tell use about boulder locations.

Greetings Paul

ciao Paul,
the area near Lago di Garda is not actually really good for bouldering...there are few places there but the problems are quite polished and not that interesting.
If you have a car you wanna go to Val di Mello (say...2-3 hours from the lake, depending on where you are staying), or some other places in the Dolomites area (Passo Falzarego or Passo Sella).
If you need more detailed beta do not hesitate on letting me know.
ciao.

Thanks for the information people,

The guy I am going with also wants to go parapenting / paragliding, so we are going to stay at Lago di Gardo for a few days. After that we will probably go to an other bouldering area. Since my / our boulder skills aren't that good yet, some information about "non interesting' bouldering areas is welcome. :D (Assuming that you mean "easy" boulders)

So Paolo Marchiori, if you have some information about these areas, it would be very welcome. (perhapse you know where a can get a topo?)

Just in case; my email is: paul_mink@hotmail.com

well, I don't link "easy" with "not interesting"...the matter of the fact is that in the Lake Garda area you only find limestone rock...and the area of Arco (where the boulders are, 5 Km north the North side of the lake) is really popular so most of the boulders there are polished...that's why I said "not interesting"...I find quite depressing to keep on sliding off problems because of their slippery rock...

Anyway, three are the areas I know, one is called "Massi di Prabi" and it's located really close to the town Arco. 5 minutes walking from the centre, towards the area "Prabi", you'll see on the left the main wall called Colodri. More or less at its base, some boulders are scattered around the trail that leads to the wall.
Another area is by the Passo San Pellegrino, from Arco towards Nago-Rovereto. After the town Nago you'll reach a little but crowded pass (Passo San Pellegrino) with a restaurant on the left side. You park there an walk 5 minutes to the rocks.
Third area is a bit further from the town Arco, towards Trento. after a while you'll notice on the left a big overhanging wall with a flat gray talus called "Placche Zebrate". There's a parking lot there, right where the trail to the wall begins. you walk along this path and you'll see boulders around.

Unfortunately I don't have any topo....and neither I guess you can find it in town...but if I see some web link, I'll post them to you.
Ciao
Paolo
